Back in 2006, renowned German architectural firm Bothe Richter Teherani Architekten revealed this building that was to grace the Istanbul skyline – Garden Tower. Garden Tower’s construction was suppose to commence back in 2006, however, more recent reports indicate that the Garden Tower project hasn’t started as yet and might commence in the second half of the year. Plans for the project show a bullet like tower consisting of 52 floors with 44 of them being above ground level.

You just have to love or hate the design.

Garden Tower was named after the multi-level gardens that will embellish the front facade facing Istanbul’s Buyukdere Avenue. The tower will feature a 1,000 person congress centre, a fitness centre, spa, multi-storey parking, cinemas and subterranean retail shopping including gourmet restaurants and cafes.

Sizes of residential flats will range between 80 and 350 m². The design of the Garden Tower reminds us a little about Swiss Re in London, a giant phallus that pokes up into the skyline of the city.

Set to be built on an existing parking plot in a very popular spot in Istanbul, Garden Tower is to become an unprecedented residential building of Istanbul. The first 5 floors of the tower are going to feature an apartment hotel, including 60 square meter apartments with bathroom, bedroom and kitchen.

The 37th floor is going to feature a sky bar with stunning views across the city offering residents and visitors a place to chill out with a glass of bubbly.

One thing that seems a little hazy is the fact that forum news announced Garden Tower back in 2006 and then again in 2009 as the exact same project. In our efforts to dig up more information we found no further news in regards to the completion of the project.
