I want to start a debate about my feeling that Malaysia is one of the best countries in the world for U.K. investors to build their portfolio.
There are some other fantastic opportunities in Asia where prices are lower and the potential for profit as great if not greater than in Malaysia, but I still favor Malaysia. The law system is very similar to that of the U.K. because Malaysia is an ex-british colony. And while the prices are comparatively higher than in say Cambodia, Malaysia's more advanced banking system means investors can relatively easily obtain 70% L.T.V mortgages. The market's semi mature state means that it has a proven track record for capital growth, and tourism is growing massively, 20% per year in Sabah, Borneo. There are no restrictions on foreigners buying or owning property in Malaysia, and owners are automatically granted residency to live there. Malaysia also has tax adantages, the government having just abolished Capital Gains tax, which now goes along with no inheritance or gift tax. If anyone can argue with the fact that all the above makes Malaysia one of the best markets in the world for U.K. buyers to make a property investment I would love to hear you countering arguments. BTW, Knight Frank's Liam Bailey is not moonlighting, we share the same name and industry. Liam Bailey David Stanley Redfern Ltd Last edited by Liam Bailey : 02-07-2008 at 11:25 AM.
